Jan. 3– 6: The 14th Annual Providence Boat Show is one of the largest Winter Boat Shows in New England featuring Fishing and Cruising Powerboats as well as Cruising and Racing Sailboats. Plus, equipment and services for all your boating needs. With two side-by-side locations there is over 240,000 sq. feet of exhibitor space. More than 280 exhibitors with over 300 boats ranging in size from 8 to 47 feet on display at both the Dunkin Donut Center and the Convention Center along with kayaks, inflatables, and accessories. Jan. 14: “Inheriting the Trade”, a companion book to the movie “Traces of the Trade”, is Tom DeWolf’s powerful and disarmingly honest memoir of the journey during which ten DeWolf family members retraced the steps of their slave-trading ancestors and uncovered the hidden history of the slave trade in New England. Their journey through the notorious Triangle Trade from New England to West Africa to Cuba forced them to confront the horrors of slavery for the first time. Shamou, the legendary Persian Percussionist
