This interactive museum presents the compelling and touching story of immigrants who came to find a better life in the mill towns along the Blackstone River. You will begin your museum visit by entering a farmhouse and experiencing life in rural Quebec in the 19th century. From there you will cross the border into the United States and begin a journey through the workday world of Woonsocket's resident and immigrant arrivals. Other exhibits re-create the new settlers' lives at home, at work and at school, and present the story of the Independent Textile Union. The Museum honors the sacrifices of the settlers, the meaning of their labor and links this grand story of the past to the new immigrants and new lives that enrich the Blackstone River Valley. The Museum of Work & culture is a part of the Rhode Islna dHistorical Society.
