Eleanor Sabin exhibition: "Penumbra"
Hunter Gallery, Drury and Grosvenor Center for the Arts, St. George's School
January 7, 2014 - February 1, 2014
Mon-Sat 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Working primarily in pen and ink, Sabin strives to evoke a sense of the uncanny in her art. Intrigued by the remains and ruins of past human habitation that can be found in the woods across New England, Sabin has developed a series of drawings exploring the ways in which these structures can be re-contextualized through the use of narrative elements. "While my drawings use the imagery of these structures, I am not concerned with creating a portrait," states the artist. "Instead I try to evoke in the viewer the unsettling feelings that I have while exploring a ruin and thinking of how that significant or useful construction passed so quietly into obscurity, disrepair, and decay." Artist reception: Jan 17, 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
