Evergreens Walk
Evergreens Walk
Francis Carter Memorial Preserve
January 13, 2013
Sunday, 10:00 a.m.
Free Admission
The Carter Preserve is one of South County's largest and best-loved protected areas, and is open year-round for hiking. In the winter, the bare woods set the stage for hollies and other trees that hold their green leaves through the cold months. If the conditions on the ground are decent, we'll hike about a 2.5-mile ramble mainly on minimally maintained trails or completely off-trail, checking out parts of the preserve that don't get human visitors very often.
Hiking boots are recommended, as the terrain is somewhat uneven in sections. Inclement weather will cancel the walk.
Directions: We'll meet at the parking lot at 400 Old Mill Road, Charlestown, RI (under the power lines).
