"The America’s Cup – The Newport Years"
The rich history of the America's Cup has been closely linked with Newport, ever since the race first came to this waterfront city in 1930. The Cup's Newport years mark a period of innovation in this legendary event, and the exhibit follows the technical developments of the boats sailed in the competition—from the majestic J/Class sloops to 12-Meters. The exhibit also pays tribute to the colorful personalities who came to Newport to battle for the coveted prize—from Harold “Mike” Vanderbilt and Sir Thomas Lipton, to Ted Turner and Dennis Conner.

Linden Place Museum Opens for Tours for the 2009 season
Linden Place Mansion, built in 1810 by the seafaring General George DeWolf, will open for guided tours of the estate beginning May 2, 2009.
Built in the Robert Adam inspired Federal style, Linden Place magnificently reflected the prosperity of the DeWolf merchant princes. Visitors will see one of the best examples of Federal architecture in New England, from the Palladian windows to the Corinthian columns, which gracefully flank the front entrance. Also of architectural significance are the later added gothic conservatory and four-story spiral staircase.
Tour highlights include tales of DeWolf family exploits, from their privateering and slave trading to their financial ruin and triumphant return to prosperity during Victorian times.
