Providence Public Library (PPL) is a 135 year old privte, nonprofit library serving residents of Providence and all Rhode Isalnd. PPL is the state's largest public library and also the designated Statewide Reference Resource Center and host for AskRI.org. The Library is home to the Rhode Island Collection - a vast colelction of materials and images by, for and about Rhode Island and its people - as well as a Special Collections department comprised of several distrinct collections of more than 40,000 books, manuscripts, pamphlets, ephemera, newspapers, maps, broadsides, art, and artifacts, representing over four hundred years of human history and culture. These collections are often the basis of special programs and exhibits presented at the 100 year old Central Library located in downtown Providence.
