This 1810 Federal-Style mansion, the "architectural crown jewel" of Bristol's historic waterfront district, was built by slave trader, George DeWolf. His descendents were in residence for 177 years, including Col. Samuel Colt, founder of Industrial Trust Co., the forerunner of Fleet Bank. Actress Ethel Barrymore also resided here and the house was featured in the film "The Great Gatsby." Linden Place has also been visited by four United States Presidents. The mansion is surrounded by gardens, French sculpture, and an historic ballroom building.
