The Art of Stealing: A Multi Genre Workshop
February 3, 2014 - March 17, 2014
Mondayss 6:30 p.m.- 9 p.m.
In this multi-genre, poetic, generative workshop we will look at ways of writing through other works as launching points for our own projects. We will look at various kinds of appropriative writings (including translations, adaptations, erasure works, conceptual texts, flarf poetry, and research-based poetry) as models for our own experiments with creative stealing. As we explore, we'll consider the porous boundary between original and unoriginal content, and consider some critical approaches to copying, plagiarism, and translation. Primarily, this course will provide room for poetic play in the great field of language that surrounds us. Though we'll be exploring the poetics of stealing, this is not limited to poetry.
