At the age of seventeen Vasilios arrived in the United States from the island of Crete in Greece. He found his way to New York City and began his culinary training at private clubs, hotels and fine restaurants including the Rainbow Room. He apprenticed under European Chefs where he honed his skills in the fine art of French and Continental cooking.

In 1976 he moved to Vail, Colorado and made his mark in the restaurant business serving Presidents, movie stars and other dignitaries. He also met and married his wife Kathy with whom he owned and operated The Clock Tower Cafe.

In 1984 Vasilios and Kathy moved to Narragansett to be closer to family who live in Rhode Island. They opened Basil's in May of that year and have been serving fine French cuisine to their customers ever since. They pride themselves on their attentive, personal service, award winning wine list, and the quality and consistency of the food. As a matter of fact, every meal that has ever been served in Basil's has been prepared by Chef Vasilios.

Basil's has been recognized by Places to Kiss, A Romantic Travel Guide, Yankee Travel New England Magazine,Fodor's Guide to New England, AAA's Where to Dine in Narragansett, Rhode Island Monthly ,The Wine Spectatorand The Restaurants of New England - A Guide to Good Eating, just to name a few. Chef Vasilios has been described as a "master of sauces", “His menu a living and savory homage to the classics”. “Basil’s Chef has a culinary repertoire fit for a king” and the dining experience at Basil’s is “second to none”. Vasilios is proud to be the Chef and Owner of Basil's of Narragansett since 1984. In his free time Vasilios enjoys riding his BMW motorcycles.
