The Ocean State Bird Club is hosting the first Big Day competition for Rhode Island! This is a friendly competition meant for Club members and non-members who are into competitive birding. There has been a lot of debate about who are the top birders in RI, let's find out in the field! The contest will take place on February 11, 2023 (rain/snow date is February 18). Teams will be vying for an actual Cup (think Stanley Cup!). The count will begin at 5:00am and conclude at 5:30pm. Results must be turned in at the central reception location (TBD) by 6:00pm. We have created a custom checklist that assigns point values to birds based upon how common or uncommon they are this time of year. See the custom checklist via pdf below. The winning team will be engraved on the Cup for posterity and it will remain in their possession for a year until the next competition. The cost to register a team is $20 for teams with three Club members or $25 for teams with two or fewer Club members. We'll be posting an event link shortly.
