Peter Lanouette Art Exhibit: ArtNight Bristol Warren
Carmen & Ginger is pleased to host an exhibit of the artwork of Peter Lanouette this coming August and September. The exhibit opens during the last ArtNight Bristol Warren of the season, with other galleries, retail locations, eateries and performers throughout Warren taking part in the event. Because the art is exhibited in the two front windows it can be viewed at any time. Purchases can be made during store hours beginning opening night. The exhibit will run from August 29 - September 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.
Raised in 1950’s North Haven, CT, a young Peter discovered art as an escape from both a bullying older brother and school boredom while providing a sense of freedom and expression to his ever-curious mind. He graduated from Silvermine School of Art in 1969 and credited the school with opening his mind and creative vision. Relocation to Newport, RI in 1970 to marry and start a family also marked the beginning of his long and prolific creative life. His own words describe his dedication to always putting time for his art first, and, finding work to support himself and his family around that. He worked in auto body repair, house painting, ship painting, drove taxis and worked taxi dispatch to allow his creativity to always flourish. Although his family life was at times negatively impacted by his commitment to his work, he loved them deeply and often made his family - and cats - subjects of his work. Always seeking artistic growth, he drew, painted in oil, watercolor and sumi-e ink, and even created an entire series of linocut prints. His work is both small and extra large; black and white and full of color. What is consistent is his skill at translating his personal experience, emotions, and observations into two-dimensional windows that speak to many. He has exhibited at the Newport Art Association, Dublois Gallery, Marymount Manhattan College and AS220 as well as other locations too numerous to list here. Peter passed away in 2006 leaving - in addition to an enormous body of work - an ex-wife, son and many people touched by both his enormous personal presence and artistic works
