This exhibition of eight works by renowned artists spans a century of art and important movements like American and British Modernism, Art Deco and Abstract Expressionism. Works by Bill Alpert, Jacob Epstein, Jane Freilicher, Waylande Gregory, Gerald Jackson, John Marin, Edvins Strautmanis and Thornton Willis are featured. Using acrylic, crayon, gouache, marker, oil, pastel, spray paint, watercolor and tusche on deckled, handmade paper or newsprint, each one of the artists explores the qualities of the paper and their chosen medium to create dynamic, personal and deeply satisfying works.
Recent advances in UV technology in glazing makes it possible to hang works on paper in spaces which wasn't advisable as recently as a decade ago. While Gerald Jackson's Geometric Abstraction and John Marin's Castorland are smaller, the six other works are large and have substantial presence. Art on paper is inherently beautiful and represents great value.
