Join the Ocean House at the monthly Artisan in Residence weekend event to meet with nationally-recognized artists and artisans for hands-on art instruction, special lectures and reception. This month, meet Jillian Barber, Ceramic artist.
Friday, January 17, 5 pm – 6 pm in the Ocean House Lobby: Meet Jillian Barber and discover why mythical portraits and imaginary creatures are enduring themes in her ceramic work. She will talk about the many colorfully glazed masks, sculptures, jardinières, and sea creatures on display.
Saturday, January 18, 9 am – 12 pm at the School House Cottage: Guests will create a beautiful open bowl form in clay using simple hand building techniques of coils and slabs.
Sunday, January 19, 9 am – 11 am at the School House Cottage: Enjoy a chance to speak with Jillian, learn more about how she started making ceramic sculptures at the Rhode Island School of Design and enjoy a gallery show of her pieces in the Old School House. View a gallery show of her piece and enjoy the opportunity to purchase her products. Coffee, Tea, and Baked Goods will be Available.
Sunday, January 19, 2 pm – 4 pm Drawing Room: Jillian Barber will talk about her life – long fascination with face and mask making beginning with an overview of masks in history. Ms. Barber will share the many masks she has made of people from age seven to seventy along with several self – portraits. Wine and Cheese
