(BRISTOL, R.I.)-The Bristol Art Museum today announced it will host an Art for Your Mind presentation by Jill Sanford titled “American Women Artists,” an engaging, educational, art observation experience designed to broaden the minds of its participants. The presentation is sponsored by The American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Museum and will take place on Tuesday, October 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Museum.
Through American Women Artists, attendees will admire the creations of a selection of women from the 18th through 21st Centuries — their pastels, paintings, photographs, sculptures, quilts and more. These surprising and unique artists helped to shape America’s artistic identity and advance the role of women in art. Attendees may discover ways to get more out of looking at art while becoming engaged in a search for clues and meaningful connections.
“I find (and I'm frequently told) that one of the strengths of the program is that it creates a comfort level in people around looking at art - and they come away feeling they will get more out of looking at art in the future,” Sanford, Owner/Presenter, Art for Your Mind LLC. “People are surprised to find how fun and interesting art history and art appreciation can be. Many tell me they can't wait to apply some of their new ways of observing to their museum visits. Some say they'll now get books on, or search websites of related topics we've discussed - and will come back for more programs!”
Jill Sanford, the presenter, created Art for Your Mind LLC programs and holds a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Art History from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. With a background in arts administration and graphic design, she has over 20 years of experience presenting art enrichment and has a passion for making art history enjoyable and accessible for people of all ages and backgrounds.
