At the beginning of the course, students will be assigned a generic opening sentence. Each week, we will begin by listening to a piece of music that creates a particular writing atmosphere. Students will use the pre-assigned generic opening sentence to write a short piece of fiction inspired by the musical piece. The expectation is that the atmosphere of each musical piece will affect the narrative voice and the mood of the writing.
By the end of the course, students will have generated 4-5 short fictional pieces, or at least 4-5 story beginnings with distinctive mood and voice.
