Copying the works of the masters serves as an effective and time-honored learning tool for artists. Conceived 34 years ago as a fun way to hone artistic skills, Spring Bull Gallery’s annual “Fakes and Forgeries” exhibit has become a popular Newport winter tradition. Artists submit either a faithful reproduction of an old or new master or a parody of the original work. The results never fail to amaze, surprise and amuse.

This year’s juror is distinguished art historian and gallery owner William Vareika. Spring Bull is offering over $1000. in cash prizes in a variety of categories.

Spring Bull Gallery, listed in the New York Time’s "36 hours in Newport, RI," is located on historic Bellevue Avenue. Our ever-changing exhibits feature works by award-winning regional artists in a welcoming atmosphere.
