Did the British Army steal the town records when they withdrew from Newport during the American Revolution; is there a tunnel on Touro Street; did an artist on Mill Street discover the tomato? This tour, presented by a guide in historical clothing, teases out the truth from the fiction in these stories and other infamous Newport tales. Tickets should be purchased online in advance of the tour to guarantee availability. Walking tours depart outside of the Museum of Newport History at the Brick Market, located at the foot of Washington Square, 127 Thames Street, Newport RI. Attendees should look for a sandwich board sign indicating where to check in with the guide and depart for the tour to the north of the building near the flagpole. Tours cost $15-$20 per person, $10-$15 for Newport Historical Society members, active duty and retired military with ID; $5-$8 for children ages 5-12.
