Clarke Street in Newport is one of the oldest streets in the City and holds the stories of pivotal moments in the cultural, economic, and social development of Newport. Join us on a walking tour that explores the evolution of the streetscape, and meet the generations of Newporters who lived in, worked in, and worshiped in the neighborhood.
This tour is held in conjunction with A Matter of Truth—Newport and in partnership with the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society.
Monthly on Every 3rd Saturday: July 19 and August 16, 2025

Know before you go: This tour begins at 46 Clarke Street/The Vernon House and takes place rain or shine. There is a restroom available onsite. This tour includes walking over uneven sidewalks.
