More details to come!
This tour takes an in-depth look at our local involvement in the American Revolution, focusing on a pivotal moment in Bristol’s history that changed minds about their loyalties to the English crown. Monday, May 25th, 1778, dawned much like any other early spring day. Though the birds were twittering in the treetops, there was an uneasy feeling in the air. The American Colonies had been at war for the past three years, fighting for independence from Britain. Little did anyone realize that this tranquil, sylvan scene was about to be interrupted by an invading regiment of British and Hessian soldiers, 500 strong, intending to burn Bristol to the ground. BH&PS Historian Rei Battcher leads this walking tour of the major sites involved in this important event.
