In August 1765, a group of Newporters organized a riot that turned leading citizens against each other and set Rhode Island on a path to rebellion against Great Britain. This tour explores what happened on those fateful summer days and offers a glimpse into life in colonial Newport on the eve of revolution. Presented by a guide wearing authentic historical clothing. Tickets should be purchased online in advance of the tour to guarantee availability. Walking tours depart outside of the Museum of Newport History at the Brick Market, located at the foot of Washington Square, 127 Thames Street, Newport RI. Attendees should look for a sandwich board sign indicating where to check in with the guide and depart for the tour to the north of the building near the flagpole. Tours cost $15-$20 per person, $10-$15 for Newport Historical Society members, active duty and retired military with ID; $5-$8 for children ages 5-12.
