The Columbus Cooperative proudly presents The Bird And The Bee with special guests Alex Lilly and Samantha Sidley.
About the artists:
Since forming in 2005, The Bird And The Bee have brought a breezy elegance to their music, putting their own idiosyncratic twist on time-bending indie-pop. On their latest album, the L.A.-based duo find an unlikely vessel for that sound: covers of some of the most massive and magnificently wild songs from David Lee Roth-era Van Halen.
Alex Lilly (Obi Best, Touche´, Zero Dezire and The Living Sisters) wants to help you dance through your existential crisis. You may have spotted the Los Angeles-based songwriter/producer/mentalist touring in Beck’s band or on the road with the Bird and the Bee and Lorde. Now she’s synthesizing her musical powers into 2% Milk, her debut full-length album. Lilly’s songs – she describes the sound as “sexy psychological thriller” – are bright, gloriously Byzantine celebrations and critiques of modern life. With Lilly’s virtuosic vocals and sharp wit at the helm, this is toe-tapping, brain-mapping pop at its finest.
Miss Samantha Sidley is a queer jazz singer & interpreter from Los Angeles, California. September 13, 2019 will see the release of Miss Samantha Sidley’s long-awaited debut record, a collection of songs by Alex Lilly, Barbara Gruska and Inara George – and some classics – celebrating love, sex, feminine power, and the wonders and perils of the human spirit. With longtime collaborators, musical director and multi-instrumentalist Dan Reckard and trombonist Vikram Devasthali – and other surprise guests.
