Founded in New Jersey in 1980, The Smithereens have been delivering electrifying rock’n’roll for 44 years. The original lineup consisted of Jim Babjak (guitar), Dennis Diken (drums), Mike Mesaros (bass), and the late Pat DiNizio (vocals). Growing up in Carteret and Scotch Plains, they honed their craft in clubs across the NYC tri-state area before gaining national and international acclaim. They’ve performed alongside legends such as Tom Petty and The Pretenders and have toured extensively, from iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall to international stages. With a discography spanning 17 albums and over 2,500 live shows, their hits like “Blood and Roses” and “A Girl Like You” have cemented their place in rock history.
Despite the loss of lead singer Pat DiNizio in 2017, the band has continued to honor his memory by performing with guest vocalists like Marshall Crenshaw and John Cowsill. Their legacy includes a 2019 induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame and contributions to various charitable causes. Recent releases feature covers and previously unreleased tracks, and they continue to tour and record new music. Celebrating their 44th year in 2024, The Smithereens remain a beloved fixture in the rock scene, showcasing their enduring appeal and dedication to their craft.
