Simplifying the Scene for Dramatic Results with Sue Dragoo-Lembo: In this workshop, we will be working from photos provided by the instructor. We will start by doing small studies to find the best composition, value plan, and color harmony in order to achieve our desired results. We will learn how to add light and drama to our paintings.
Students should bring stretched canvas or panels. 9x12, 11x14 or 12x16 seem to be good sizes. Bring what you're comfortable with. Artists should bring whatever paint they have. At a minimum, colors should include: a medium red, yellow, ultramarine blue, burnt umber and burnt sienna. When purchasing burnt sienna, look for one that is transparent. For oil painters, I highly recommend Utrecht brand Burnt sienna. It is my all time favorite. For Acrylic painters, Amsterdam brand makes a transparent acrylic. And if you want something really special, Golden Quinacridone/Nickel Azo Gold is a spectacular substitute for burnt sienna. If you have a table easel please bring it. If you do not, please let me know so we can accommodate.
