If your mom is a history buff, then you are in luck! Rhode Island has a treasure trove of history museums, sites, buildings, and tours to choose from. The Newport Mansions are always a hit - especially if mom is a fan of HBO's The Gilded Age (filmed at several of the Newport Mansions!). There are also some fantastic tours and places to check out related to Black History in Rhode Island, including Stages of Freedom, The Center for Reconciliation, and Providence Walks: Early Black History Tour. There is also the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution, Slater Mill, the Gilbert Stuart Museum, and the Tomaquag Museum - which is Rhode Island's only museum dedicated to the story of the area's original inhabitants.
