A Tale of Two Mansions

Travel along Great Road in the Blackstone Valley town of Lincoln. Built in 1683 as the major thoroughfare through the Blackstone Valley, this historic district retains much of its early rural character and has several period houses, farms and mills to visit. You’ll be touring the Arnold House, a rare surviving example of a stone-ender, a once-common building type featuring a massive chimney end wall. Built by Eleazer Arnold in 1693, the house is a National Historic Landmark and features stone work that reflects the skills of the settlers who emigrated from the western part of England. After a stop for lunch at a local favorite dining establishment, continue to the Hearthside House, a unique stone mansion that is one of the finest examples of an early 19th century Federal-style house.
