This quaint, rural Rhode Island village, and the first village in Rhode Island to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places (1971), has numerous antique and collectible shops.
Many of the buildings that house these shops are filled with history. Take the Job Armstrong Store, it was the largest of the 13 dry goods stores in the village in the early 1800’s and is now a museum and the headquarters of the Glocester Heritage Society. The Brown & Hopkins Store, (1809), is one of the oldest continuously operating country stores in North America. These, among many other shops, carry a treasure trove of history and antiques.
If you need a break from all the antiquing and exploring there is a sitting park which is located among the shops and overlooks the scenic Chepachet river. There are also several places to stop for a coffee or grab a bite to eat. And if you happen to be in town during the 4th of July, be sure to catch the uniquely odd and fun Ancients and Horribles Annual Parade.
