The Rhody Mix Experience

If your mantra is “variety is the spice of life” then you’ll find plenty to do on a visit through Blackstone Valley, Providence, and Warwick. Here are some ideas to get you started planning your Rhode Island getaway.

Blackstone Valley

Let’s start in Blackstone Valley at Lincoln Woods. It’s a beautiful, woody spot with winding trails and paved roads, as well as Olney Pond. You can walk, hike, picnic, and even go horseback riding, via Sunset Stables. It’s a big kayaking and dog-walking spot as well. You can grab a fab diner breakfast at Patriots Diner in nearby Woonsocket before starting out, and after you can escape the outside world with the peaceful, meditative bliss of Saltitude Himalayan Salt Cave (you can book a reiki session or massage in the salt cave as well). Fun things to do in BV include Trivia at The Guild on Tuesdays and  The Hope Artiste Village Marketplace on Saturdays. If you’re looking for lunch and dinner options north of Providence, The Lodge Pub and Eatery is a great casual option and Tavolo Wine Bar & Tuscan Grille is a wonderful upscale Italian spot.

Providence

Traveling south to Providence, you can soak up some history on a self-guided walking tour of The East Side or The Jewelry District, or enjoy a guided tour with Experience Rhode Island.  For art and history lovers here are a few spots to think about the WaterFire Arts Center, RISD Museum, John Brown House Museum, and Lippitt House Museum just to name a few. For some fun at the Roger Williams Park  why not paddle around the park in a swan boat, visit the Botanical Center, the carousel or just roam around while you’re there? If you’re in Providence on Sunday, pay a visit to the Providence Flea, a vintage vendor and artisan maker market that features food trucks and carts, live musicians, local artists, and more. Who knows what treasures you’ll find? Or climb up to the Providence G Rooftop for dinner: picture yourself against the backdrop of the city skyline, cocktail in hand, warmed by firepits! And if you’re in the city in the morning, visit NicoBella’s Family Restaurant for a classic breakfast menu and weekend brunch.

Warwick & West Bay

Heading further south will bring you to Warwick. Non-locals, keep your eyes to the right side of the highway (on Route 95S) as you leave Providence so you don’t miss RI’s unofficial but much-beloved mascot, The Big Blue Bug.

Once in Warwick, if it’s breakfast time, pop into the Cozy Grill to fuel up for a day of outdoor exploration. How about a nice relaxing walk on the water at Rocky Point State Park? Home of the former Rocky Point Amusement Park (1847-1994), you can read about the history at markers placed around the park. Golfers can take in 9 holes at Midville Golf Club in nearby West Warwick. When you’re ready for a bite, head to Chelo’s Waterfront Bar & Grille – a Rhode Island staple with a great view and outdoor seating. Then you can make your way to Goddard Memorial State Park. You can wander the park, stroll the beach, go horseback riding, or play more golf. Wrap up your visit to Warwick with a walk around historic Pawtuxet Village. You can soak up the history, browse the shops and grab some pub food and traditional Irish fare at O’Rourkes Bar & Grill. Or you can head to Oakland Beach to enjoy seafood and ocean views at Top of the Bay.  For some nighttime (or daytime) fun everyone of all ages can enjoy one of RI's news hot spots the brand-new Top Golf.
