Matthew McCarthy was among nine chefs chosen to complete for the New England title of The People’s Best New Chef in Food & Wine Magazine’s reader poll. He is Fish's executive chef and partner, and the winner of the title where he was up against nine other chefs for the region.

McCarthy opened Jamestown Fish in December in 2001. He serves European inspired seafood-based cuisine. He has worked in New York City at Restaurant Daniel, Gramercy Tavern and Craft. He has also spent six years at Pasta Nostra in Norwalk.

He studied at Hospitality Management/Culinary Arts from NYC College of Technology and at Birmingham College of Food, Tourism & Creative Studies in Birmingham, England. He has also earned a Level 4 Diploma in Wine and Spirits from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust in 2002, and in 2008 was published in Wine and Spirits magazine.
