First Universalist Church in Providence
Founded in 1821, our Universalist Christian Church believes in the worldwide unity of the body of Christ, getting its name from proclaiming the universal salvation of all people in Jesus Christ. We welcome everyone to our services, and exist to build up the local body of believers. We desire to share our faith, firmly rooted in the Gospel of Christ, through worship, study, and fellowship together, in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
When visiting our church, you’ll discover a beautiful, traditional, Protestant service held in one of the best-preserved examples of mid-Victorian design in the New England area. Our building boasts cathedral architecture, some of America’s oldest U.S.–made stained glass windows, and a prayerbook liturgy dating from the Civil War era. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, First Universalist is a must-see stop for visitors and community members alike.
