BIOMES Marine Biology Center, created by Mark Hall, is an educational facility working to raise awareness of what is in Narragansett Bay. The center is home to the largest collection of New England marine life in the world and has more than 120 species. From sharks and eels to snakes and tortoises, here children and adults can get a close-up, and sometimes hands-on, look at local marine life. BIOMES is a privately owned marine science education center focusing on hands-on programs for students and families. The center can be toured weekends, Sunday through Friday all summer and during school vacations; call for current hours. As BIOMES President Mark Hall explains, "global trade and exotic fish escapes have brought some unexpected critters to our neighborhood." Come visit the center and prepare to be amazed.
