Congdon Street Baptist Church

Originally founded in the First Baptist Meeting House in 1819, this is the oldest continually operating Black church in Providence. The church, which was rebuilt in 1869, provided a space for the growing Providence Black community to meet their spiritual needs and work together to access education, meeting space, and the agency and social capital that comes from institutions.
