Food & History Walking Tour: A 2+1/2 hour walking tour consisting of visits to food shops, bakeries, wine stores & the people who maintain the legacy of this unique historic settlement in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. Presentation of Federal Hill history, anecdotes and food talk, designed to enlighten you with the most knowledge and culture. Chef Walter will also give you valuable info on olive oil varieties, balsamic, pasta, rice and other products. Meet chefs, bakers, merchants and historians Full immersion in Italian food culture, history and lifestyle.
A typical tour: The tour will begin at Garibaldi Park located under the arch at the entrance of Atwells Avenue in Providence. After initial introduction, the host will inform you of the day's events, which will include stops at some of the most unique and famous retailers of the area. Along the way you will be informed of the history and cultural richness of this colony, which has been in existence since the turn of the 1900. During the tour, you will stop in different retail locations to sample foods related to the richness of the Italian culinary repertoire; from cheeses to charcuterie to sweets and antipasti samples and much more. The entire program is presented by Master Chef and Food Network winner Walter Potenza. The tour ends at the Federal Hill Heritage Center, a photography exhibit of Old Federal Hill.
