Visit the Cumberland Monastery for a fairly easy, two and half mile jog or hike through the trails. The site, a former Cistercian monastery, now owned by the town of Cumberland, is home to the oldest war veterans memorial in the United States. The memorial, Nine Men’s Misery, lies toward the beginning of the trek, which will lead to the Monk’s Quarry Trail. From there you will do a loop through the property.
Be sure to bring your camera and be sure to wear bug spray and bring some water. Also on the grounds is the Cumberland library, playgrounds and gardens.
