Shickasheen Farm, Inc
Mary Shurtleff and her late husband, Leo, opened Shickasheen Farm in 1976. Originally they cared for race horses. After the race track was shut down they switched gears and - at the suggestion from a neighbor - they started growing mums. They grew the farm into a small garden center focusing primarily on annuals.
Why Shickasheen? It's the name of the creek that runs along the edge of the property. "Shickasheen" is believed to be a Native American/Narragansett Tribe word for "great spring".
