In the heart of Newport’s best-known Irish American neighborhood, visitors will learn about Irish immigration to Newport County from the colonial period to the present and the many contributions made to our community by individuals of Irish descent. The Museum’s Interpretive Center is operated seasonally and open by appointment at other times. Please visit the website for the schedule and details.
The center's exhibits are organized around several key aspects of life in the local Irish community and include maps, photographs, video, and artifacts, including some from the construction of Fort Adams, which was built with Irish immigrant labor.
An all-new interactive exhibit, “Tracing the Tides,” allows visitors to delve deeper into the lives of Newport's Irish immigrants through a rich, multi-layered narrative, illustrated by historic photos and other images, including many that have not been previously available to the public.
Also visit the historic Irish cemetery at Barney and Mt. Vernon Streets, the final resting place for Newport’s earliest Irish immigrants.
