Touro Synagogue is the oldest standing synagogue in the United States. It was dedicated on December 2, 1763. The architect Peter Harrison created a small masterpiece. George Washington wrote a profoundly important letter about America’s promise of religious liberty to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport. During a tour of the synagogue you will learn about the historical background, the early Jewish community in Newport, the architecture, and many of the personalities who made Touro Synagogue the National Shrine it remains today.

Space is limited and registration is required. Expect to spend around 45 minutes on the tour.
