Discover the Timeless Tradition of Cultivating RI White Cap Flint Corn
We are proudly growing Rhode Island White Cap Flint Corn at Coggeshall Farm from seed donated by Solid Rock Farm in Exeter, RI. With a rich history dating back to the Narragansett tribes, this unique heirloom maize thrives in our historic gardens. Nestled amongst the beans, pumpkins, and squash, this corn has taken off and become a staple of beauty in the garden. This variety of corn does more than just look good; White Cap Flint Corn is the official corn of Rhode Island jonnycake. The art of making jonnycakes has been passed down through families and communities, each infusing the recipe with their own Rhode Island distinct touch. No matter what recipe, it all has to be made with the same heritage breed, White Cap Flint Corn, to be officially called a Rhode Island jonnycake. Come see the corn on the farm and learn more about Rhode Island’s culinary heritage!
